Keith Ellwood Bio

Keith Ellwood, CD, CFEI (MESC)

From 2020 to present day, I am a Fire and Explosion Investigator with Origin and Cause Inc. working out of the Winnipeg / Western Region.

I have over 250 combined fire, explosions or technical/mechanical investigations, over 550 Fire and Life Safety inspections of various occupancy types and over 25 professional presentations regarding fire and life safety and fire investigations.

During my time 8 years, 2012 to 2020, with the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner (MB OFC) I was a Fire and Life Safety Inspector for approximately 4 years eventually taking and being accredited as a Fire and Explosion Investigator in 2015 and moving over to that section shortly there after. Between 2003 and 2010 I was a Firefighter in the Canadian Armed Forces with postings to CFB Trenton and 17 Wing Winnipeg. After retiring from the military, I worked for ABC Fire and Safety Ltd in the SCBA repair/maintenance department before taking a 6-month position as a contract fire prevention officer in Afghanistan with SNC Lavalin. I returned to the military in 2011 as an Air Force Reserve Firefighter until my employment with the MB OFC. Prior to and concurrently with the military, 1999-2006, and ultimately what really gave me my love of the emergency services was my time as a Volunteer /Paid on Call Firefighter with Kingston Fire Rescue and the former Pittsburgh Township.
